Traditions

Christians have the same problem with religionists that the 1st century church had with traditions. Hear Jesus: "Howbeit in vain do they worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." Again, "For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the traditions of men."

Let me illustrate. Does the Bible teach denominational loyalty or loyalty to Christ? Where is there anything similar to a denomination found in the New Testament? Where is the hierachy? The idea of apostolic succession is not scriptual. Christ is the head of the Church.

Today's church has every kind of activity imaginable: aerobics classes, dance lessons, parties, shows, entertainment. Listen to Jesus: "In vain do they worship Me."

Church people know how to cuss, but not how to witness, know how to dance, but not how to pray. Who idolize actors and actresses, but have no idea how to lead a lost sinner to Christ. They are excited about sports, but not about revival. The Bible declares them to be "lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God." Church rolls are full of people who are lovers of self. Who hold grudges, and won't forgive. Who spend lavishly on themselves, but won't support the Lord's work.

Dr. Bob Jones, Sr., said it well: "What this nation needs is six months preaching from the pulpits."
